Dentistry doesn't have to be uncomfortable
or scary. Start feeling better right here!

How we can help:

Some times issues that are outside of our conscious awareness can manifest themselves in our lives in the form of negative and destructive behaviors.

Teeth grinding (bruxism) is an issue that continues to baffle dental professionals around the world, and although night guards and other tools can minimize its impact on our body, the best policy is to address the source of the issue(s) and build a new set of skills to be better equipped to deal with certain situations.

Our bruxism protocol, Brux-away, is a 4 session program designed to eliminate grinding and clenching and it’s usually done within 4-6 weeks, with most feeling almost immediate results after the first session.

The process will help release those unconscious triggers that make you grind and help you maintain a healthier balance in life.

Temporal Mandibular Joint Disfunction is the result of clenching and grinding your teeth for a prolonged period of time. Bruxing causes the muscles around the TMJ to get more exercise than they need, and the disfunction shows up over time in the form of pain and lack of mobility.

The human brain has the amazing ability to control how we respond to signals such as pain and stress. During your TMJD/Pain relief sessions we will create new associations that take the suffering out of pain and allow for proper healing.

Hypnodontics for TMJD is an 8 session program. It starts with our 4 session Brux-away protocol and continues with techniques to address chronic and acute pain depending on your specific needs.

It is no joke that dental anxiety and fear are leading causes of tooth decay and other dental issues. Imagine if you could schedule your dentist appointment being completely confident that you’ll be relaxed and comfortable during your visit!

Releasing tension and anxiety allows you to relax through the treatment plan your doctor recommends, and allows for faster healing. Our body has an amazing innate ability to recover from illness and trauma, and good dental anxiety relief can help you get the most out of your treatment.

In our 3 session stress relief program, we will install valuable coping skills and understand how to make them your new automatic behaviors.

Do you have a habit you’d like to change?

Stop smoking and/or using tobacco without meds, weight gain or other negative side effects.

There are generally 2 ways to get rid of a bad habit: Replacing a bad habit with a different one, or deciding that you’re fed up with it enough to just let it go, which is what happens when the pleasure of the bad habit is lower than the perceived benefits it gives you.

Hypnosis is an incredible tool to help you make the changes you desire, and habit control for things such as smoking, nail biting and overeating is one of the main things the modality is known for.

It’s amazing to me every time a client releases habits and behaviors that were holding them back. It truly shows that some things that may seem impossible to our conscious mind and out of our control are handled so well by the real decision maker, the unconscious mind

Our “Kick the Habit” program is 3 sessions to be completed in about 30 days. However, you’ll most likely be a non-smoker after the first session and we’ll do some clean up on subsequent meetings.

Are you ready to have your last cigarette?

Let’s face it, dentistry has sounds, smells and feelings that aren’t always pleasant. In-fact, most dental patients we have spoken to say that there is at least one item at the dentist that causes them fear and some of them even fully developed, debilitating phobias.

During our 3 session fear/phobia relief program we will identify those triggers and unconscious issues that are aggravating and perpetuating the fear and then we will systematically desensitize those unwanted responses so that you can enjoy a dental visit for once – and get the oral care you need!

Commonly, patients we have worked with have suffered from debilitating fears like: the sound and vibration of the handpiece (“the drill”); needles and shots, the claustrophobic feeling of some dental work and someone’s hands in their mouth, and of course many non-dental fears like fear of flying or driving or of getting out of the house.

Please don’t let fear stop you from doing something you want or need to do. We can help!

An overactive gag reflex keeps many people from getting the dental care they need. You’re not alone and 10 out of 10 dental professionals agree that they also prefer you not to gag.

Luckily re-training your mind to respond differently to the things that used to make you gag is a fairly simple process, similar to retraining other unconscious habits and behaviors.

Our gag-limit program is 3 sessions and as in most of our behavior modification programs you will likely be free from the behavior after one session and we will tie up loose ends or deal with anything new that emerges on subsequent sessions.

Chronic pain affects a large number of the population and many don’t know there are alternatives to pain medications.

Hypnosis is a fantastic tool for helping the human brain re-code those pain signals it has been receiving and turn them into a more pleasant feeling.

Taking a “pain killer” activates reactions in the brain that release our natural “feel good chemicals”. Those same reactions can be activated by utilizing the tools of effective communications such as hypnosis and neuro-linguistic programing (NLP).

The human brain has phenomenal capabilities and it uses pain as an alarm system. Once we discover what is causing the alarm to go off, we can reprogram the way the brain reacts to it, and you can easily achieve stress and pain relief.

All pain relief sessions require that your doctor/physician “signs off” on that pain having no physical basis or being the result of something that needs their attention. This is done for your protection because hypnotic techniques can mask pain so effectively that one could become unaware of the need for actual medical treatment.

Do you have a habit you’d like to change?

Nail biting and thumb sucking can deteriorate your teeth and lead to major issues.

There are generally 2 ways to get rid of a bad habit: Replacing a bad habit with a different one, or deciding that you’re fed up with it enough to just let it go, which is what happens when the pleasure of the bad habit is lower than the perceived benefits it gives you.

Are you ready for a change?

The unconscious mind is powerful and sometimes it makes mistakes, like trying to protect us because we’ve had too much of a certain food or when we come in contact with something it deems dangerous.

Many of these unwanted unconscious allergic responses can be eliminated or at least alleviated with the use of CBT, ACT, Hypnosis and NLP.

While it’s not recommended for life-threatening allergies because of the obvious reason of the danger of actual testing, our 3 session allergy relief protocol has proven to be effective for multiple types of allergies and can finally help you find long-lasting natural relief.

Clients have also enjoyed symptomatic relief from skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis with this program, since these and other similar conditions can generally be traced to stressful situations and unresolved conflict.

Do you dream of an entire night of restful, rejuvenating sleep as you toss and turn, battling insomnia?

Many times our sleep cycle goes out of sync with the rest of our hectic lives, in this insomniac day and age. Other times there are outside factors that keep us awake at night, such as stress and pain.

Regardless of the reasons, sleep deprivation can translate into a range of problems in other areas of life. From health issues to a poor social schedule, sleep deprivation causes irritability, lack of energy and reduced cognitive ability.

During our 3 session program to overcome insomnia, We will work with you to relieve the stress that may be causing it and to identify and realign whatever has taken you out of sync.

Having surgery without the help of any chemical anesthesia is certainly not for everyone but it is the “holy grail” of dental hypnosis.

But why would anyone subject themselves to that, you ask?

The reasons are many, including: No side effects, controlled bleeding, a desire for personal challenge, due to allergies to anesthetics, to prove it can be done, and more.

Hypnosis has a long history of being used for pain management and complete pain relief during births and all sorts of medical and dental surgeries. If you want to explore the possibility of having surgery without anesthesia please connect with us to get your questions answered.

Surgery prep is a 3 session program to be completed (ideally) well in advance of your procedure.

While the specialty of Hypnodontics deals mostly with mental health issues affecting oral health, we have routinely worked with clients to help them find relief from symptoms of other ailments and diseases such as cancer, IBS, high blood pressure and eating disorders.

Hypnodontics FAQ

Hypnodontics is a dental specialty, dedicated to the mental health aspects of dentistry and the control and/or elimination of subconscious behaviors that keep people from achieving optimal dental health.

Similar to how dental specialists receive titles like: Endodontist, Periodontist, Orthodontist, trained dental hypnosis professionals use the title of Hypnodontist.

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring phenomenon that can be self-directed or guided by another person (a hypnotist or Hypnodontist). It creates a state of focused concentration that can make changes seem effortless and automatic under the right circumstances.

A Hypnodontist is a certified hypnotherapist who has chosen to adhere a set of high standards, through continuing education and presentation protocols, and is thereby well qualified to work with medical and dental professionals and their patients.

Other dental specialists have designations such as Endodontist, Orthodontist, Periodontist… A Hypnodontist is a mind/body connection dental specialist.

Hypnodontist.com is a resource for dental and hypnosis professionals who want to learn how to better communicate with dental patients, to make oral health a priority. It is also where dental patients can find information and schedule hypnosis coaching services.

Not a chance. Since hypnosis occurs naturally, it’s simply a sense of internal awareness much like a daydream. You can bring yourself back to your normal awareness any time by focusing your attention on something else. Much like snapping out of that daydream.

Clenching and grinding many times show up as a response to internal conflicts, things that are out of balance in life, and stressful situations.

Our Brux-away program will address behavioral and emotional changes to better equip you for dealing with certain situations and we will work together to release the triggers that used to make you clench.

Your jaw muscles will thank you, your teeth will thank you, and your dentist will thank you. This is an important investment in your oral health.

No. At Hypnodontist, we provide adjunct care that many doctors like to offer their patients as added value.

Juan Acosta is trained in hypnosis, neuro-linguistic programing (NLP), and multiple other mind/body modalities. He holds a diplomate certificate from the International Certification Board of Clinical Hypnotherapy (ICBCH), as well as the Certified Hypnosis Practitioner designation (CHP) from the Hypnosis Practitioner Training Institute (HPTI).

Some people still ask this question so I decided to answer it a little differently.

I will assume you’re sitting down as you read this, so just imagine that you’re seeing a dear childhood friend and hearing his/her voice. Remember one thing that you enjoy about this person’s memory and let it fill you up as you breathe in deeply.

Now think about what just happened and answer this: Did you experience even a small emotional change as you brought back that childhood memory for a few seconds?

Ok. Hypnosis is about evoking the emotions that create the changes you want. In that sense, we’re all hypnotizable.

The levels of hypnosis you see at a stage performance are not necessary for effective and long-lasting change work. In fact, a good portion of our work is done with eyes wide open, using conversational hypnosis and NLP techniques. Everyone can enjoy the effects and life enhancing benefits of their sessions.

That depends on what made you uncomfortable in the first place. Most people are able to relax once they understand how natural and gentle the process is.

In general, hypnosis sessions are a nice, relaxing and comfortable trip into your inner resources. Nothing to be scared of and you’ll be awake and aware of what is happening at all times.

If you have a specific fear/apprehension let’s discuss it so we can better assist you.

Not at all. In fact, in many cases we don’t even do any eyes-closed processes… but if we do, you’ll simply be in a state of comfortable relaxation and hearing every single thing. Your senses will be heightened and your awareness enhanced. It’s truly enjoyable and relaxing!

Only under special circumstances. While normally there is a high degree of improvement regarding the presenting issue after one session, the effects can be more long lasting and even permanent with some reinforcement.

Therefore, we now only offer multi-session programs, as they are in the best interest of those who trust us to help them.

Depending on your presenting issue and our assessment during your free strategy session, we will discuss either a 3 or an 8 session program, except for bruxism which is 4 sessions.
